Hello everyone. I am new to this board, and I do have a question I hope someone can help me with. I have been on the same BCP (ortho-tri-cyclen) for about 4-5 years. Durring this time period I have only missed about 3 pills. Well, this month I have not missed a pill and have taken them at the same time, and on Saturday I started bleeding pretty heavily. This was only 14 days into my pill taking. I have about 9 more days until I start my period. Usually if I miss a pill or take one late I might have light spotting, but I bleed pretty heavily for like 30 minutes then it stopped. Only for me to spot lightly later in the evening. I'm not sure what could have caused this. Nor, am I sure if I should change pills. Any advice or 2 cents you could give me would be great! Thanks in advance!

Have you changed anything in your life about the time you began bleeding, such as beginning to loose weight or taking large doses (1,000mg or more) of vitamin C or other dietary supplements? Or, if you have been on OTC for 4 or 5 years then you might have 'out grown' it. Our hormonal needs change as we age so perhaps that's what's going on. For more on irregular bleeding read the post 'Irregular bleeding anyone?' in the FAQs. You might want to see if your bleeding reoccurs next cycle or if it was a one time thing before considering a pill change. It might not be a bad idea to let your doctor know what's going on, so s/he will be in the loop. Thanks for posting. I hope you'll let us know how you're doing.
Good luck,
Jill
