I finally went to the doctor today after a 6 month fight with BTB on Mircette, Ovcon 35, and OTC. I had an ultrasound and internal done, and the doctor decided that my only option was to stabilize my endometrial lining (or uterine.. can't remember what she said!) with Ovcon 50. After two months on this pill, if the bleeding stops, I am supposed to call her, and she will then put me back on OTC or Ovcon 35. I'm a little worried about this, but I guess the doctor knows best. I asked her if I should be on a pill with a higher progestin, as Judie suggested, and she said that this is my best bet. So anyway that's where I am. I start this pill on Sunday, and I'm pretty nervous. But hopefully it will help. If any of you have advice or experience with this, please let me know! Thanks again for all the wonderful advice!

Thank you for your advice. I, too, had heard that a higher progestin pill would help BTB. my doc seemed to think this was the only way to go. I don't know though.. i'm still worried!

Some doctors are that way--if your doctor has had success treating a woman this way, it's going to be difficult to try another course of action. I had that problem with my former gyn and a prescription to treat my vulvodynia--because he'd had patients who had success with a 50mg dose, that's what he gave me, even though standard practice is to start with a 10mg dose and work your way up. There are cases where the uterus needs more estrogen to get bleeding to stop and there are cases where there needs to be more progestin to restrict the growth of the endometrium to get bleeding to stop and your doctor might want to satisfy him/herself that it's one or the other.
I probably wouldn't freak out as long as the doctor only wanted me to try Ovcon 50 for a couple of months, but I'd probably put my foot down if it was supposed to be more than that. And that's just me with no formal medical training and an opinion!
Ovcon 50 isn't just more estrogen, it's a higher progestin content too, so there's some balance there at least. But be prepared for breast tenderness. You might have some additional bloating (think PMS stuff), or things might be pretty normal. But whenever I've gone with more estrogen I've always had breast tenderness and a little swelling.
Good luck, please keep us posted on how things go, okay? And if at some point you aren't satisfied with your doctor's handling of your case, you can always check out a second opinion. Take care!
