BC problem... HELP!
| Wed, 11-17-2004 - 8:37am |
Last month I took a month-break on taking my BC pills. What happened was that when I was picking up for a refill a couple of months earlier, my mom took it to the wrong pharmacy, thus losing a refill. But since DB was going away for a whole month, it wasn't going to be a problem. So about 2 weeks ago (after finishing my period), I started my pills again at the same time I would usually take it before stopping for a month. Last nite, DB and I... well you know... and now I'm concerned. I'm already on my darker blue pills when he and I made love (for exact, the first dark blue pill) but I heard that on your white pills, you should have a backup. HELP! Will I get pregnant? Am I worrying for nothing? Oy vey!

Hi irobbeesgurl1, welcome!
If I were you I'd ditch the diet pills. This board recommends not taking diet pills and using caution and back-up if you do. Most diet pills haven't been approved for effectiveness or drug interactions by the FDA so no one knows for sure what effect they may have when used with oral contraceptives. It's possible that if the diet pills have increased your metabolism to burn fat your body may not be fully absorbing the hormones from your pills which could lower your protection. If I were you I'd be using back-up until you are off the diet pills and have taken at least 7 active BCPs correctly. Let us know how you're doing, ok?
Good luck,
Jill
Are you on OTC? It sounds like it, based on your description of "blue" pills and "white" pills. It helps if you specify, as not all pills are the same.
What do you mean by "i heard that on your white pills, you should have a back-up"? Are the white ones the first week? Because if so, then that's definitely true, and many people recommend extending that backup for the rest of the month. Basically, the deal is, if you're a day-1 starter (you start your pills on the first day you get your period), you're protected from that very first day. If you're a Sunday starter, which it sounds like you are, should use a back-up method for at least a week, though like I said, many of us feel that a month is better, just to be on the safe side. If you've been taking your pills correctly, you're probably safe, assuming the "dark blue" pills are the third week in the pack, which I seem to remember that they are, but in the future, be sure to use a back-up, that way, at the very least, you won't have to be concerned if AF is a little bit late.
What the heck does DB stand for??

Yep I'm on OTC! OTC-Lo for exact. There's 4 kinds of pills that goes with it... white which is on the first week, light blue on the second, dark blue on the third, and green (the reminder pills) on the last week. Sorry I wasn't clear. I was actually doing my work at the same time as I was typing that first post. LOL

Yeah that's what I meant. From what I heard that if you started talking your BC that while on your white pills, you should have a backup such as a condom in case you're planning to have sex that week.

I'm a Day 1 starter. Rememeber, I was off for a month, but eventhough I was off, my cycle was exactly like if I was on the pill. So I started again on the actual day I would start Day 1 if I didn't take that break.

Dear Boyfriend! I guess that person got confused that with Diet Pills. *blush* Once again, I wouldn't be caught dead talking diet pills. Hey look at what it done to Anna Nicole Smith. LOL

I'm sorry, I think I confused you ... a Day-1 starter is a person who starts their pills on the *first day* of their period, not the first Sunday after their period starts (Sunday Start) or first day their period ends or whatever. From your first post, it doesn't sound like you started the same day as your period (you wrote that you started your new pack "after my period ended" or something to that effect), you are not a Day-1 starter and you would not have been protected from the get-go. Either way if you've been taking your pills correctly, I'd be willing to bet you're okay, but I do recommend using backup for the FULL MONTH if you take any "months off" in the future. Treat it like you're starting the Pill all over again.

Caitlin is right!
Apologies... It's not been a good day!
