New here and FORGETFUL!!!!
| Wed, 11-17-2004 - 9:13am |
Hello everyone! I'm Cassi and I'm married with two boys. Sonny is 13 months and Hunter is 7 weeks. My husband and I agree that we want another baby (hopefully a girl next time), but we want/need to wait. He is leaving for Iraq in Jan and will be gone up to 18 months. I would rather have one sooner than later but now is just not good timing. That and I'm not sure having another baby soon would be good for me. My problem is that I am very forgetful when it comes to taking regular medicines. I am on birth control but I am constantly forgetting to take it. What can I do to help myself remember, or maybe I should try other options? Please help!!!

Hi Cassi, welcome!
If you aren't BFing and can use a combined (estrogen/progestin) method of contraception you might want to consider NuvaRing which is very effective and very low maintenance. NuvaRing (the ring) http://www.nuvaring.com/ is a flexible two inch diameter ring worn in the vagina for three weeks and removed for one for your period and has the lowest dose of estrogen (15mcg) of any method available in the U.S. Most members posting about it seem to like it. Let us know what you decide and how you're doing, ok?
Good luck,
Jill
When I took the pill, before switching to Nuvaring, for six years I took my pill during the late evening news. With babies I'm sure it's a lot tougher! But the news kept me to a 10-10:30pm time frame and as that was a daily habit that I had....
Now if you're an at-home mom, if you have any TV show that you watch during the day, whether it's Oprah or Baby Story or anything else, you could try to time your pill time for that time. If you get up at the same time every day (not likely), brush your teeth at the same time every day (also not likely), any activity you do at the same time every day could be your mark.
You can switch to the patch or the ring if you aren't breastfeeding. Or probably the easiest no-brainer solution that we pass around here is to go out to your local discount store and buy a sports watch with an alarm or borrow one of your husband's. Set the alarm to your pill time and either wear the watch, keep it in your purse with a pack of pills (so if you're out somewhere you're not without them), or just keep it somewhere that you can hear the alarm go off.
I hope that helps!
Co-cl for Birth Control
You know, I just remembered something. A while ago, I saw cases for birth control pills that had built-in alarms. If I recall, they could be set to vibrate or a beeping sound. I saw them at Wal-Mart, of all places. Not sure if they have them anymore, but I know when they did, they came in several rather snazzy colors and patterns. I only remember them in the round-shape, though.
Might be worth looking in to!
