My girlfriend had recently lost her virginity to me. She was not on birth control, but a condom with spermicidal lubricant was used. She had pains, but did not bleed. We are worried now because her period is a few days late, although she is feeling light cramps and breast sensitivity as if it were to start. Could you advise as to the possibility of her being pregnant? Does loss of virginity affect schedule of a menstrual cycle? We will be visiting a teen health clinic, but are extremely worried and would like to have some questions answered before the appointment time.
Thank you so much for any assistance.

Loss of virginity does not change the schedule of a menstrual cycle (but stress can, and deciding to have sex for the first time and worrying about pregnancy can be stressful for a lot of people). Condoms are about 85% effective at protecting against pregnancy, and with spermicide, the percentage goes up. When used correctly, that's a pretty effective contraceptive.
If she's experiencing her usual pms symptoms, then there's a good chance Aunt Flo is on the way. Still, if her period doesn't show up soon, it's a good idea to take a pregnancy test and talk to a doctor about what's going on.
If you're not sure where to go, Planned Parenthood is a great organization (offering trustworthy, confidential, and affordable services for reproductive health care). http://www.plannedparenthood.org/
Take care!
