Heres my story-
This whole month has been miserable for me...Basically Ive been dealing with anxiety and depression all month. Ive been taking Nortrel 1/35 for 2 years and havent experienced any side effects untl possibly now. My Dr. thinks it's just anxiety- but I feel like this is related to something completely out of my control- like extra hormones from the bc pills??
See-nothing in my life has changed (that I can think of) to warrant such negative emotions!...my job is the same, same wonderful boyfriend ..family life is good...usually for me to be upset there needs to be a reason...and i cant find one!! So Im wondering if it could be the pill...
My dr. said the next step, if things don't improve soon, would be to try something like Paxil....but i really hate to start taking drugs for something that might be caused by my bc pills....
Its just so confusing to me...I just want to feel like myself for more than an hour...
So before I go back to my Dr about this I am going to try a lower dose of bc pill- called Aviane (allesse)
Has anyone tried these? did you notice any major mood swings? Im wondering if my depression/anxiety will "go away" quickly after starting this brand or if it will take some time??
I really cannot believe whats going on...Im just getting so tired of having to struggle to get through the day without crying or breaking down...it's so not like me!!
If anyone has any info about this I'd appreciate it!! Thank you so much for "listening"

Hi dncnl23, welcome!
Hormonal contraceptives can cause moodiness and sometimes the reaction can be delayed not just occurring while you are adjusting to the pills. I can relate to your reluctance to go on medication when you aren't certain what's causing your problem. When you switch pills you could see a change fairly quickly or it might take a while. We are all different so I don’t think anyone can say for sure. I think you should give the new pill at least three cycles to see how you do since it can take that long for your body to adjust completely to the new hormones. Let us know how you're doing, ok?
Good luck,
Jill
Thanks!
Any idea what I should do in the meantime while trying the new pills- assuming I dont see any change in my mood?
If you go with a totally different progestin, one unrelated to the one in the pill you're now taking, you may see results fairly quickly. Do you consume much caffeine? When I was younger and drank a lot of coffee I would sometimes get very edgy. Caffeine is in so many things, sodas and chocolate... so you might want to watch that. Let us know how you're doing, ok?
Good luck and hugs,
Jill
