Depo to Seasonale???? HELP!!!!
| Thu, 11-18-2004 - 5:52pm |
First off I'm a new memeber on this website and I really love it!!! It helps to hear different people's experience with different things (I'm finally not alone!!!). Well I'm still trying to decided if I want to switch to seasonale. Unlike others I have not had alot of extreme problems with the shot (except the first few months).I've been currently on the Depo shot for about four years now. After experiencing my period for the first time since then I started to become intrested in Seasonale. With the Depo shot I usually spot or come on my period right before its time for my shot (about every 3 months). Since I'm already experiencing this I'm wondering if its the same thing as being on seasonale? Is the only main difference with the shot and the pill, is the shot is time relaesed and more of a certain hormone. I'm really intrested in trying Seasonale and I'm wondering if I have a bigger chance having the same side effects on seasonale vs. depo (that would be wonderful).
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, Depo and Seasonale have different types of hormone, yes. Depo is given intramuscularly, that is inside of a large muscle, where it`s stored and slowly released over a 3 month period.
With Seasonale, yes, your periods will be every three months. During your first months on Seasonale, though, you`ll probably spot frequently (a lot of women have had a problem with this). However, this really isn`t much different than the first few months on Depo! I spotted pretty much constantly during the duration of my first shot.
I`m not sure what you mean by having a "bigger" chance of having the same types of side effects. Since Depo and Seasonale are different forms of progestins, in different doses, and Seasonale is coupled with an estrogen, it`ll probably affect your body differently. Things may go as well for you as they did with Depo but, then again, Seasonale may not be the best mixture of hormones for your body. Different combinations and types of hormones affect all women differently. It`s really hard to say how Seasonale will change things for you until you try it.
Sorry that I can`t be more helpful, but I hope this gives you some idea of what to expect.
I agree with Lena, you really can't compare Depo and Seasonale to each other because they're SO different. There is no progestin on the market in a combined (containing estrogen)form that is like what's in Depo, and each progestin is chemically different from another. Adding the estrogen is going to make a big difference too--with more estrogen, there will be more development of the lining of your uterus, so you would notice a larger quantity of bleeding with each period than the spotting that you're having with Depo (likely, anyway), but you may have fewer progestin-related side effects.
It still might be worth a shot--you'll never know if you don't try!
