Just got the IUD (Paragard)

I just got Paragard on Oct 26. The thing is i'm not supposed to feel the IUD itself, maybe a little bit of the string, but not the IUD itself! My boyfriend told me he could feel the hard edge of the IUD every time he push me (during the intercourse) and this bothers him & me. I checked out myself too : i put my finger inside of my vagina, and yeah, there it is, i can feel the tip of the IUD. Is it normal? Is it because my uterus is small? (My Doc had a hard time to put it in actually, it hurt so much, i screamed- ) Can I just push it in a little bit? 'Cause my man is so worried & bothered, he can't go in deep nor hard, that is so frustrating. Ever since i got Paragard, we had sex only twice! Now we're thinking about the shot (i was on DepoShot for 3 years, until Sep 04) but this IUD already cost me a lot ($700.00!!!) What should i do??

You need to call your doctor right away if you can feel the IUD. That sounds like it's starting to be expelled. If that is the case, then you can't push it back in. You'll need to get advice from your doctor, and they may have to replace it with a new one. Paragard has a free replacement policy if it's expelled within 90 days, and so you shouldn't have to pay anything more.

I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. When I expelled my first IUD (a Paragard), the doctor told me that since I lost it within 3 months of insertion, I could send it back to the manufacturer for a refund. Since my insurance had covered it completely, the doctor kept it. I don't know what he did with it and if the insurance company ever got reimbursment for it. If your doctor removes your IUD (which he probably will if it truly is protruding), ask him about getting a refund. If he has not heard of this before, you should still ask to keep the IUD and then call the manufacturer yourself. Good luck, and let us know how you do.
