Is it normal to have a pretty heavy flow while on the Pill?? Normally, it's heavy for the first two days, then it drops off to barely any. I was just wondering if this is common?

Hi there, personally when I was on a higher estrogen pill, my period was really heavy with large blood clots. I have now switched to a lower estrogen pill and my period is not as heavy as before. Which pill are you taking?

I'm taking Ortho-TriCyclen, which I assume is a low dose.

Ortho-TriCyclen has 0.18mg NS (7), 0.215mg (7), 0.25 (7), 35mcg EE (21). The first three numbers are the amount of progestin during the three weeks and the last is the steady amount of estrogen. The number are pretty average. Ortho-TriCyclen isn`t a low dose pill but it`s companion, Ortho-TriCyclen LO is.

I think that as long as your period isn`t extemely heavy or painful, I think that it`s pretty normal. Of course, "normal" is pretty relative - it`s different for every woman on the pill. The fact that it dwindles off after a few days is related to it begin heavy the first two. I mean, after your uterus sheds so much of it`s lining, there`s not as much left, you know? What you`re experiencing is safe, as long as you don`t have really heavy extended bleeding or a lot of pain.
