Sunday start or not?
| Sun, 11-21-2004 - 10:52pm |
Hi All,
I just my very first prescription for the pill and am due to start within the next week or so. My gyno told me to start on the sunday after my period starts. I also read the insert that came with the package and it said that the pill (Yasmin) can also be taken within the first 24 hours after the onset of menses. My question is: is there any medical reason for a sunday start or can I start the pill when my period starts as I would prefer? It doesn't matter to me if my cycle starts over the weekend, and I shouldn't have any problem taking the pill.
I look forward to your input!
Thanks,

Yeah, you can start your pill on the first day of menses. This is actually the preferable method - during this place in your cycle, your natural hormones are at their lowest and it`s easier for the synthetic hormones to override. You are protected from pregnancy on your first pill if you begin in this method.
The Sunday start was indeed invented so that women could keep their periods off of the weekends. The thing with the Sunday start is that you need to use back up protection, like a condom, during your first week if you do this because it takes seven active pills to be protected if you don`t start on day 1 of your menses.
So, if you`d prefer to start on day 1, have at it! I hope that Yasmin works out well for you. :) Let us know how you like it and if you have any other questions, feel free to give us a shout.
Thanks for your reply - wow, that was quick ! :-)
I absolutely will keep you guys updated on how Yasmin works for me.
