I recently started using the patch form of birth control and as directed I applied it on the first day of my period. However, the next day my period stopped. Is it normal for it to stop like that?
Thanks

It can be! Some women's periods will stop when they start hormonal birth control, other women will continue bleeding for up to a few weeks, everybody's different! You start bleeding because the hormones that support the lining of your uterus drop off about two weeks after ovulation if the egg hasn't been fertilized. Without that hormonal support, the lining starts to degrade and it sheds and the blood vessels leak. If you add back the hormones, sometimes you can get that to stop or sometimes it causes a temporary freak-out before things settle down again.
It's good to remember that breakthrough bleeding (bleeding outside of your patch-free week) can be common in the first couple of months on any hormonal contraceptive. It's nothing to worry about, really, it's just annoying! But that could start at any time, so it's good to be prepared in case it does.
Good luck, I hope it works out for you!
