safely skipping a period

HI I have been on birth control pills for 4 years and i have never missed a period. I will be taking a trip soon and unfortunately i am suppose to be getting my period at that time. I am considering skipping my period for next month but i am not sure if it is safe to do so. I am wondering if there are any adverse effects or if there is anything i should know before I do this.
thank you

No, there are no adverse side effects to skipping your period. Heck, women on Seasonale skip all of their periods but 4 a year!
Not all women can successively skip their periods but it`s easier with a monophasic pill (one that has the same dose of hormones throughout the month). You may want to try to skip your period before your trip if you can, so you can see if it will work for you. But you said it was soon so..hm..I suppose you can try it then and maybe it`ll work. If you use a triphasic pill, like Ortho-Tri-Cyclin where there`s a different dose of hormones each week, then instead of starting a new pack straight out (the dip in hormones from week 3 to the week 1 of the new pack can cause your period), go into the week 3 from your new pack. This can only delay your period for a week but if you`re looking to do it for a trip, that may be an option. After that, the pack that you took the week 3 out of should only be used for spares.
I hope this isn`t too confused! There are a lot of great posts on here about skipping your period and how to do it if you would like to look around. :)
