Judie, ? about ring-free week

I have been using the Nuvaring for 13 months. Usually if DH and I feel frisky during the ring-free week we use a condom. I took my ring out last Thrusday, and I will put a new ring in this Thursday (Thanksgiving). DH and I had unprotected sex last night. Should I be worried? The lining of my uterus should be preparing to shed right? So even if I ovulated and egg couldn't implant, right? Should I get Plan B? Please, anyone with information would be greatly appreciated!

from the way i understand it if you have not gone longer than the 7 day ring free week you should be safe from getting pregnant. its designed to work even during your ring free week so you should be safe sorry if im no real help. julie

Hi Jessie,

The ring, like all other hormonal contraceptives, is very effective 24/7 if you have been using them correctly. You should be well protected during your ring-free week. I don't think you have a thing to worry about. Thanks for posting. I hope you'll stop back and see us.

Good luck,

Thank you both for your responses. I was pretty sure we were okay, but DH was concerned afterward. We have a 15 month old son, and are definitely not ready for another (if ever!).

I --never-- use backup in my ring-free week! You don't have to, just like the pill, if it's used correctly for the three active weeks, you're good to go for the fourth as well.

No worries! :)
