From what I gather, members here that have taken EC have experienced fairly heavy bleeding, nausea, and spotting. However, if you need to take EC, then I think that these possible side effects are really outweighed by the possible pregnancy that you`re trying to avoid.

EC loses it`s effectiveness the further from the date of concern and is pretty much useless after 72 hours, so be sure that if you need to get EC, get it soon.

Hi bebegurl19m, welcome!

Hon, if you need EC then the sooner you take it the better! A pill specifically for EC is a very large dose of a progestin. Some possible side effects are nausea, irregular bleeding and menstrual irregularity. You might have side effects or you might not, it depends entirely on how your body reacts to the hormone. For more on EC see information on the EC site: http://ec.princeton.edu/ and from the Planned Parenthood site: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/bc/cchoices3.html#EC The effectiveness of EC decreases over time but it is very effective if taken within 72 hours after the incident of concern so please don’t wait. Let us know how you’re doing, ok?

Good luck and hugs,

I have taken the EC pill twice, and didn't have any side effects at all the first time. The second time, I had a little nausea, which I attributed to taking the pill on an empty stomach. Just make sure you take it with food and you will be fine! The pill itself is honestly not as bad as you would think (or not for me anyway)! Good luck!
