My doctor told me to do two 28day cycles on nuvaring back to back and then have a week break. My first cycle I started bleeding at about 6 and a half weeks, so I took the ring out a week early.
This cycle (my 2nd) I was able to go the full 2 28days without any break through bleeding. Actually I had the tiniest bit of bleeding/spotting 30 min after taking the ring out and about that much more in the last 24 hours.
Cramps have only been a few twinges here and there.
I hope my bleeding stays this light and my periods are short! Mine have almost always been 6-7 days long, no matter what birth control I've been on or off of. And I've always had a decent amount of bleeding, and more when I had my copper IUD.
I love the ease of Nuvaring and will definitely use it while I am on hormonal birth control. (I would love to be TTC!!)

Hi Heather, welcome back hon!
We appreciate your update on NuvaRing, I'm so glad that the ring is working well for you!
Thanks for sharing.

Hi songgirl2006, welcome!
Hon, please turn off caps lock on your keyboard, all caps is considered shouting, thanks.
If you are on a medication that can lessen the effectiveness of combined (estrogen/progestin) hormonal contraceptives you should talk with the doctor who prescribed it for you about which hormonal method (if any) would be best while you are taking it.
NuvaRing can be removed, for up to 3 hours at a time, without lessening your protection. Since the hormones from NuvaRing do not pass through the digestive system (they are absorbed directly into the bloodstream through the vaginal tissue) vomiting and diarrhea will not lessen the effectiveness of NuvaRing. I think all medicines and supplements that may decrease the effectiveness of other hormonal methods will also affect NuvaRing.
Thanks for posting. If you have more questions please ask. Let us know what your doctor says and how you're doing, ok?
Good luck,
Jill
Hi songgirl2006, welcome back!

Some forms of HPV are very very common. There are many types of HPV most of which are easily treated if caught early enough, which is the purpose of having a pap. A good source for information about HPV is: http://www.ashastd.org/learn/learn_hpv.cfm and an article on cervical dysplasia is: http://www.ashastd.org/learn/learn_hpv_dysplasia.cfm#1 . Other sources of information about HPV can be found at: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/hpv.html . An article on the colposcopy procedure is: http://familydoctor.org/082.xml which says in part:
“A colposcopy is a way your doctor can examine your genitals, vagina and cervix closely. A colposcope is an instrument that shines a light on the cervix and magnifies the view for your doctor. At the beginning of the exam, you lie back and place your feet in the stirrups as you would for a Pap smear. Your doctor inserts a speculum into your vagina and opens it slightly so he or she can see your cervix. Then your doctor applies a vinegar solution to the cervix and vagina with a cotton ball or swab. The vinegar makes abnormal tissue turn white so your doctor can identify areas that may need further evaluation.
If your doctor sees areas of abnormal tissue during the colposcopy, he or she may also perform a biopsy. This involves removing small samples of tissue from any abnormal areas in or around the cervix. A specialist doctor called a pathologist will examine these samples.
It usually only takes 20 to 30 minutes for your doctor to complete a colposcopy and biopsy.”

Hi songgirl2006
Mmm… did you mean Tegretol?
The link http://www.mentalhealth.com/drug/p30-t01.html does say that there may be an interaction between Tegretol and hormonal contraceptives. I hope things work out the way you want. Wishing you the very best of luck. Keep us posted, ok?
