Nuvaring-UTI's & YI's???

I was wondering if using NuvaRing increases your chances of getting urinary tract infections or yeast infections. I am susceptible to both and I thought I heard that it increases the risk. Thanks.

Hi Tanya, welcome back!
I don't think NuvaRing contributes directly to UTIs. If you are having UTIs you probably already know there are things you can do to try and minimize them, such as staying well hydrated, urinating immediately after intercourse (to flush out any bacteria forced into your urethra during sex), wearing cotton crotch panties and drinking unsweetened cranberry juice. A good article on UTIs is: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000521.htm
Most of our members posting about their experiences with NuvaRing seem to like it , but as with all combined (estrogen/progestin) contraceptives the ring can make some women more susceptible to YIs. A good article on vaginal yeast infections is: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001511.htm
Thanks for posting. Please ask if you have more questions. Keep in touch, ok?
Good luck
Jill
I too am prone to urinary tract infections, but I didn't see any increase in their frequency in the 38 months that I used Nuvaring.
