I'm in my 50's and I used to use a diaphram in my 20s & 30s and never had a problem with it. I didn't even know that you had to wait a few hours after using to take it out, I usually took it out about 1 hr after intercourse. I'm like a guinea pig, I think I was ovulating 24/7 always got pregnant, up to in my 40s, when I didn't use birth control. I didn't have to take a test, if I made a mistake I always got caught. Have never used the pill only the diaphram and it proved highly effective. (Make sure u also put the spermacide around the circumference of the diaphram.) There is no big problem getting it in, you'll get better at it as time goes on and there is no level of discomfort, you don't even feel it when it's in. To me, it's the best form of contraceptive.

Good luck.

Hi harley1cc, welcome!

>> am wanting any info on cervical caps or diaphragms...I just posted my first message also..My libido has gone out the door and my BF is suffering tremendously...Do you use both cervical cap and a D?? Do u need to use both?? Ill prob have lots of questions..

Christina, you have read the post about diaphragms and cervical caps in our FAQs, right? If not that might be a good place to start to answer some of your basic questions and prompt you to think of more that we would love to try to help you with.

I do use both a cervical cap and diaphragm, but not simultaneously. The cap is my primary method and the diaphragm is for when I’m on my period. When I came off hormones nearly 4 years ago my libido (that had gone MIA) came roaring back! I hope you enjoy being off hormones as much as I have.

It’s simple to learn to insert and remove a cervical barrier and they shouldn’t hurt to wear, insert or remove. It may take a little practice to develop a technique that works well for you but you will get the hang of it in no time at all.

Thanks for stopping by. Please let us know when you have more questions.

Good luck,
