Depo provera risks

Hi all,

This has been written in previous posts, but I was very concerned when reading the article distributed via email by iVillage today about birth control as far as the info on Depo provera (the shot) is concerned.

Somehow the very serious issue of a loss in bone density when taking Depo and becoming amenoric (no periods while getting injections and for a while after discontinuing) was overlooked when discussing side effects. This is a huge, dangerous side effect of this method of birth control. Additionally, there are concerns about the ring, patch, shot and hormonal implants in women who smoke or are at heightened risk for blood clots. There is some early evidence that the risk of blog clots is significantly higher with these methods than with the pill. Don't mean to be an alarmist, but this is info all women should have when discussing with their physician what's right for them.

Be well,
Lisa
