Hi everyone!

I know this probably isn't the right board to post this question on, but I've posted on this board before and everyone is really helpful so I thought I would give it a shot.

A few weeks ago I went to the doctor because I was having unusual discharge. I found out it was a yeast infection. I've never had one before - otherwise I wouldn't have gone to the trouble of going to the doctor. I bought monistat 7 and the infection didn't go away. I bought monistat 1 and the infection STILL didn't go away. I can't afford to go back to the doctor because I don't have insurance and this ordeal has already cost me $200. Do you have any advice? Is there anything I can buy that may work better than what I have already tried? I'm desperate! Thanks!

Boric acid vaginal suppositories work well for me. Buy some Boric acid and size 00 empty gel capsules at a pharmacy. Insert one a night for about a week. (Though I usually get relief after only using one) Use a panty liner as there will be some discharge. Works like a charm!

Taking an acidophilus suppliment may help, or a suppliment geared toward fighting yeast. They aften also include caprylic acid, and garlic along with the acidophilus and other probiotics. (CandidaStat, Yeast Fighters, etc.)

I could go on and on...as I've tried just about everything out there...but the Boric acid has been the only thing that has worked consistantly for me.

As the previous poster suggested, once you have this under control, you may want to try an Probiotic supplement to prevent future infections. Or - you can start eating more yogurt (buy the kind that specifically says on the back it meets the standards for live and active yogurt cultures).

good luck!

Hi estakia, welcome back!

You should be certain about what problem you are trying to treat. If the over-the counter meds aren't working for you I think you should see your doctor again to see what's going on. If money is tight you might want to try your public health department or your local Planned Parenthood Health Center. To find one near you call:1-800-230-7526. PPHCs have a sliding scale of prices for women who qualify.

Thanks for posting. I hope you get a good diagnosis so you can get the proper medicine and are feeling better soon. Let us know how you're doing, ok?

Good luck,

Ok....I can't find boric acid or size 00 capsules anywhere. I tried Walmart and two different Walgreens. Those are pretty much the only pharmacy type places here. Is there somewhere online that I can order these items?

Also, has anyone tried the "Azo" supplement that's supposed to help with yeast infections? I thought I might give that a try because it's the only thing I can find.

Thanks.

Hi ladies!

Thanks for all of your help. To answer your question - yes, the doctor did a culture on me and confirmed that my infection was a yeast infection. When I went in I actually thought I had bv, which I've had before, but she proved me wrong.

Thanks for the tip on going to a health food store. I had some luck at Whole Foods finding acidopholus and I also purchased something called "yeast arrest" which are supossitories that have boric acid in them. I didn't have luck finding just plain boric acid anywhere. I'll see how this "yeast arrest" stuff works.

Also, I called planned parenthood and they told me that if my infection doesn't go away that they can write me a prescription for a more powerful cream that may help. So, I wouldn't have to pay out any more money for another appointment, just for the prescription. So, hopefully all goes well and I can kick this infection! - I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all of your help!

Yeast Arrest is a great product, I think it might be just what you need. I used that for a while and then switched to Boric Acid. (BA is cheaper and I was having regular yeast infections.)

Here's another idea. The only annoyance with suppositories is the associated leakage. What I always did was, after the supp had been in for a couple house and had melted most of the way I would douche with warm water and a few droppers full of collodial silver (also found at Whole Foods). The silver can help infections and then that would cut off the last little bit of residual leakage. Just a thought...though any other type of douching would be counter-productive!

Hope you can kick this thing naturally! :)
