Weaning soon,when to start BCP?

Hi everyone! I am a mom to two wonderful kids,my youngest is almost 11 months. She is breastfed,so i am on Micronor for birth control. I will be hopefully starting to wean her around a year old(in May). I was wondering if anyone knows when should i call my ob/gyn for a prescription for regular bcp? Will the mini pill become less effective as i wean her,or should it work until she is completely done nursing? I really want to be careful, i have had two babies in two years, my DD was a surprise baby because i was bf my son,and my old ob wouldn't prescribe any kind of hormonal bc then,,not even the mini pill.
Thanks for your time!!

Hi flutterby_babymama, welcome!
Congratulations on your newest addition to your family!
If I were you I would talk to your doctor as soon as possible about switching to a more effective method of contraception as you wean your DD. If you have started cycling and having your periods again the effectiveness of your protection has already decreased since it is most effective when the progestin-only-pill is combined with lactational amenorrhea. Talk to your doctor and see what s/he recommends.
Thanks for posting. If you have more questions please ask. Let us know what you decide and how you're doing, ok?
Good luck,
Jill
I agree, I would call now, and then you can have a prescription in hand when you need it.
