Side effects from Tubal Ligation??

Fri, 03-31-2006 - 11:17pm

I had a tubal ligation during a C-section in december. I breast fed, but still bled for 10 weeks.. quit for 2 and then started my period. It was a really heavy period that lasted my normal 5 days, and now I am late on my 2nd one. The first period actually came on the same day that it would have last year....

I was not on any birth control for the last 10 years.. If I got pregnant, it was okay. We wanted a child together. I have hypothyroidism and Hashimotos auto immume thyroid disease. The dr said I was probably infertile. So we gave up. I found out that I was pregnant this time last year.

I would like to know how to Ask the experts on this, but if anyone experienced the same thing, or could tell me what to expect. I mean..

Will I stop having periods, or just every now and then... How will I know. I never cramped much before, and didn't cramp the whole time I was bleeding after the c-section, or during the 1st period..

any info would be appreciated.

Hi jenna2323, welcome!

Congratulations on the new addition to your family!

I think what may be going on is that you are still experiencing the hormonal changes of being a new mom and breast feeding. I don’t think having a TL should usually affect your periods but your situation may be complicated by your other medical conditions. And, though rare, there is such a thing as post tubal ligation syndrome. A good article about that condition can be found at http://www.wdxcyber.com/nbleed9.htm. If I were you I would talk to your doctor about your concerns and see what s/he says.

Most members who have TLs don’t stick around afterward since they no longer need to worry about birth control but I hope any members who have had TLs and are still around will stop by to share their experiences.

Thanks for stopping by to post. If you have more questions, please ask. Let us know how you’re doing, ok?

Good lick,

Hi. thanks..
How do I get my question on the Q & A with the experts like on the home page??
So far, all I am getting is that it may be normal.. People are different.., could be stress.. After my c-section, (and breastfeeding at the time), I bled for 2 weeks, stopped, had a bad night with the baby, and then bled for 8 more weeks. Stopped for 2, then had a heavy period.. All the answer I am given is.. sometimes that happens.. could be stress... ect.. No good answers.
thanks again,

Hi jenna2323, welcome back,

>>How do I get my question on the Q & A with the experts like on the home page??<<

I'm sorry, that’s not possible now. There was a time, many years ago, when the experts did answer a few questions each week. At this time, we rely on the archives of the Q & A's. If you haven’t already done so you might want to get a second medical opinion about your situation.

I hope other members who have had similar problems will stop by and share their experiences. Thanks for posting Please keep in touch and let us know how you’re doing.

Wishing you the best,

      Jill

Ihad the same question for others too. I had a tubal in July after I had my forth baby.Since then every month my cramps are really bad and I bleed really heavy for the whole week and it just stops . I wanted to know how many women are going though this I had it done the next day after delivery.

Hi Denise,
I have only had 1 period since I stopped bleeding from delivery. I didn't cramp at all. I just "felt" it coming out, and rushed to the bathroom. I have never bled so heavy before. Now it's been over 5 weeks, and nothing.. I don't know what to expect.

with a tubal you still have periods-they might be irregular and all...From a few of my friends experiences with tubals their periods have become heavier and more painful since getting a tubal....but everyone's different...((HUGS))
