Hi,
Today my doctor prescribed Paxil (1 time a day at bedtime for 2 weeks and then 2 times a day after that) It's scary because Doctor said that if I want to STOP taking it, I cannot do it abruptly, I have to call her first... I don't think I really need it for the long term; my dog is dying and it has really affected my emotions in the worst way. Anyhow, I checked the Drug Interaction Checker on-line and after I entered Apri and Paroxetine (generic for Paxil) it said 'no interactions' but I am nervous because Paxil is for depression and anxiety/panic attacks/disorder and I know that St. Johns Wart is also for depression and that lowers the effectiveness of the BCP. I did tell my doctor prior to prescribing it to me that I was on the pill but for some stupid reason I didn't go further and ask if it would decrease the effectiveness of my pill. Does anyone know? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Lucy

Hi lucygirl2004, welcome!
I’m very sorry about your dog! I know you are worried and sad. I have an 11 y/o dog and I am so attached to her. I can’t imagine what it will be like when she passes.
The information about Paxil on MedlinePlus:
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a698032.html#precautions doesn’t seem to show an interaction between hormonal contraceptives and Paxil. However, if I were you I would ask your pharmacist about that possibility and be guided by what s/he says.
Thanks for coming by to post. Let us know what your pharmacist says, Keep in touch and let us know how you’re doing ok?
Good luck,
Jill
My thoughts are with you. I know you will do what's best.
