I am currently on depo and considering getting on NuvaRing. I have a question hopes its not TMI lol. I am in the habit of rinsing my BF semen out of me after we have sex as I am susceptible to UTI's and yeast infections. I know that you can have the ring out for up to two hours but is there a limit to that. I mean if I take it out and rinse it off every other day or so, is that going to decrease the amount of hormones I get? Is there any info about the number of times you can take a ring out and /or rinse it off? weird question I know lol. not too mention the difficulty I will have with breaking that habit when I want to get pregnant :)

Hi, snoflake1024 welcome!

You should use only cool water to rinse off the ring. Warm or hot water will cause loss of hormones. I don’t know of any limit to the number of times you can briefly remove the ring but that is a great question to ask the ladies at the NuvaRing hot line at: 1-877-NUVARING (1-877-688-2746) Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. ET.

Thanks for stopping by. Let us know what the ladies at NuvaRing say, ok?

Good luck,

You are aware that douching can actually increase the risk of yeast and bacterial infections, right?

I didn't say that is used douche. I said I rinse myself out, with plain water, sitting at the sink.

I actually don't have a problem with yeast infections very much now that I rinse off afterwards. I espacially do that if we used lube since it can have glycerin which causes YI. I couldn't imagine douching with vinegar. That gives me the heeby-jeebies, lol. But if anyone has a problem with YI, I would definately recommend rinsing after sex.
