HELP!!! My period is all screwed up
| Thu, 04-06-2006 - 8:19pm |
I was on BCP for 4.5 years, first it was Novum 7/7/7 then when my insurance made me pay $35 a month fot that I switched to TriNorynol, and then again to Aranelle. The pills themselves were fine, I never had any side effects while I was on it. Problem started when I went off the pill last October, thinking DH and I may want to start trying to have a baby later this year so I want to be ready. The first month I went off, it took 33 days for my period. Not a big deal. Then the next one came at 21 days. I was alarmed but I expected it'll take sometime for my hormones to adjust. Then another period in 21 days. Called my OB/GYN and she said my body is still ajdusting and to give it some more time. The next one came in 24 days so I thought I was making progress. Then the next one came in 24 days again. Seems like progress. Then today BAM, 18 days from the time my last period started, I am having my period again. So this is my 7th period since I went off the pill in mid-October. I called my OB/GYN again and she told me seems like my body is out of whack and she suggests that I go back on the pill to regulate my ovalutory cycle. She said I can go on the pill for 2-3 months, then go off it when DH and I are really ready to try to conceive. That got me so confused because I thought it was the pill that screwed me up in the first place. If I have to rely on the pill to regulate my cycle, then how am I ever going to get pregnant? I can't possibly get into a cycle of BCP for 3 months, off for 1-2 months to try, and then back on BCP again if the cycle is off. Does anyone has similar experience? I am so scared that now that my cycle is screwed up I may have a really hard time conceiving in the near future. Any advise would be appreciated. TIA!

Wait!
I agree with Judie.
I don't necessarily think there's anything wrong with your cycles - they are all within the range of normal - some women have 18 day cycles - some have 35 day cycles - and whereas you've only been off the pill for about 6 months, your body is still adjusting.
The good news is that if you're having a period - it's pretty likely you're ovulating- which is what you need to get pregger's!! Like Judie said - you may want to look into Natural Family Planning and Toni Weschler's book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility." Not only can it help you figure out when you're ovulating, it can also help you figure out when your monthly is going to come so you won't be surprised!
Remember, your body was on artificial hormones for 4 1/2 years - it's going to take some time to regulate itself back to normal. *hugs* Good luck
