Going in for TL

I have a tubal ligation scheduled this month and was interested in any info from anyone who has had one done? How is your sex drive compared to being on the pill? Do you have heavier periods? How was your recovery time? What side effects have you had?

Is the tubal worth it? I have been reading up but thought this it the best place for my questions to be answered!

Thanks.

Hi missyb742006, welcome!

Often members who have had TLs don’t stick around because it’s permanent. So you may not get many members posting their experiences. While you are waiting you can use the search box at the top of the screen and search for ‘tubal ligation’ and ‘Essure’. One of the best discussions about a members experience with a TL is: http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-bhcontracept&msg=16870.1

There is a new procedure called Essure http://www.essure.com/ that is less invasive than a TL that you might be interested in. Here are some articles on TLs: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002913.htm and http://www.fwhc.org/birth-control/tubalig.htm and about Essure http://messageboards.ivillage.com/iv-bhcontracept/?msg=17683.1

The MedlinePlus article about TLs is at: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002913.htm and information about Tubal Ligations on the Planned Parenthood site is at: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/pp2/portal/files/portal/medicalinfo/birthcontrol/pub-tubal-sterilization.xml

With LTs there is the possibility, though rare, of post tubal ligation syndrome. A good article on the condition can be found at http://www.wdxcyber.com/nbleed9.htm. If I were you I would talk to your doctor about your concerns and see what s/he says.

Thanks for stopping by. If you have more questions, please ask. I hope your procedure goes well. Let us know how you’re doing, ok?
