Oh no... They aren't here yet...

Okay. So my doctor ordered me some BC pills so that I can start taking them. Although, sometime in the future my DH and I will use them as birthcontrol, right now I'm going to be taking them to help regulate my hormones because my testosterone is high and I've been taking some antibiotics to help clear my acne, but we are keeping our fingers crossed that the bc pills will help with the acne also. My problem is though that I have to order my meds through mail and they were sent off the begining of the week, but they are not here yet.... And I'm already spotting so I think tomorrow (sunday) I'll be starting... If my meds come in on Monday will it hurt to start them a day late??? Basically, if I start my period tomorrow and the pills come on Monday couldn't I just treat it like missing a pill and take Sunday's and Monday's when I get them and then continue regularly? (We'll of course be using condoms for awhile anyway because of the antibiotics that I'm on...)

Hi iv_chipmunk, welcome!

You could do that, but if you do miss the first day of your period why not just start with one pill on Monday or Tuesday when you get your pills and then get back to a Sunday start (if that’s what you want) with your period at the end of the first pack by taking a 5 day break instead of the full 7 hormone free days?
If you begin BCPs on any day other than the first day of your period you should use back-up until you have taken at least 7 pills in a row while your protection is established. But, because you are on antibiotics you should continue using back up all during the time you are on ABs and until you have taken at least 7 active pills in a row after the last dose of antibiotics. Or, if you are on an antibiotic like Zithromax / azithromycin you should use back-up until you have taken at least 14 days of active pills in a row.
For women just starting to use BCPs this board recommends using back-up for the entire first cycle while you are learning to take your pills correctly. That way if you miss or are late with a pill it's no big deal. In our FAQs we have a lot of good information for new pill users about common pill side effects, irregular bleeding and taking your pills correctly.
Thanks for posting. I hope the pill works well for you to regulate your cycle. If you have more questions, please ask. Keep in touch and let us know how you're doing, ok?
Good luck,
Jill
