When to expect my period? BCPs to Mirena

Hey everyone,

The end of last month I switched from Demulen 1/35 to a Mirena IUD. I had the Mirena inserted the end of my placebo week, and had spotting for 3 or 4 days following the insertion. Since then, no bleeding, or cramps.

I was on the pill for 7 years before this switch, but before that, my periods were somewhat irregular, and I had very long cycles.

So, I'm not sure when or even if to expect a period in the next couple weeks. I didn't track my cycles consistently, but I was half way keeping track of my cervix position, and I know it it did rise, but I never noticed a change in cervical mucus, and was not taking my temp. so I'm not sure if I ovulated or not.

Any ideas/experiences would be appreciated. I'm not really worried about pregnancy (as I trust my IUD), I would just like to know what to expect if at all possible.

TIA,
Allison

Unfortunately, without having kept track of your cycle - it's impossible to say when you'll get your period. It might be 12-17 days after you felt the rise of your cervix...but without other identifiers (like a temperature shift and/or fertile cervical mucous) we can't be sure if that was really ovulation.

When *I* switched from BCP to Mirena - my period was right on schedule 28 days later. Then the next month it was a little later and lighter - same the 3rd month - and then it was gone for 2 1/2 years! So, it's really different for every woman. I'd suggest making sure you have your choice of feminine product with you from now on - just in case! And next month - if you really want to know when to expect your monthly - start temping - that really helps!

Everyone is different, but for me (i am in month 3 with mirena) I went from Alesse, where I was taking it constintly so I did not have a period at all, stopped taking them so that I was on my period during insertion. My period stopped almost immediatly after insertion. Had my first period with mirena right on time--like 27 days later. First period was looooooonnnnnng (16 days)but was fairly light and started my 2nd period exactly 28 days later which I am currently on day 9 of, but I don't expect it to last much past today and this cycle has been nothing more than spotting except for the first day which was VERY light flow. Honestly, I have been on BC for so long i can't remember what a real period was like, I am hoping that the mirena will eventually stop them compleatly. Id really rather not deal if I don't have to.

Good luck!!

Thanks for the reponses everyone.

I also tri-cycled on my bcp, so I'm not used to having periods very often! I'd love if my period would just stop.

Next cycle I will def track my cycle better. I was so excited this to finally have a form of birth control I didn't have to think about, I really didn't want to think about it, lol.
