Mirena removal

I have had the Mirena IUD for approximately two years. My husband and I are considering expanding our family. How long after removal does fertility return to baseline levels? Also, what can I expect as far as menstrual changes and/or irregular bleeding following removal. I have looked everywhere for information and have found little regarding issues post-Mirena removal. I would appreciate any help you can provide.
Thanks!

Based on my the literature I received with my Mirena consultation and what my own (wonderful) gyn told me, once the Mirena is removed, most women start to bleed within 2-3 days, and often, the bleeding tends to be heavier than they are used to. Once that bleeding is over, most women tend to return to their normal hormonal cycles. Actually, what he said is that upon removal of the IUD, fertility returns "immediately" - but that, of course, is going to vary with everyone. Mirena doesn't, however, work my suppressing ovulation, so the problem is not that you'll have to wait for ovulation to return, but rather for the lining of your uterus to become hospitible to a fertilized egg.
Incidentally, the information I got from Berlex, the makers of Mirena, claim that 80 percent of the women who wanted to become pregnant conceived within 12 months after the IUD was removed.
Hope that helps, keep us posted with your decision!

I had my Mirena removed and began charting my fertility signs the same day. I found that my fertility returned that cycle - in that I ovulated about 15 days after the Mirena was removed. However, my Dr. did advise me that it could take a couple of months for fertility to return and that it varies by woman. So - I'd say be prepared for immediate return of fertility, but don't be surprised if it takes a couple of months either.
Good luck!
