Does any one have experience with the Today sponge? I am in the throws if perimenopause, dr won;t give me bc pills anymore and thought I would give it a try. We have been using condoms but I am not 100% convinced they will prevent an UH OH baby. Any help would be deeply appreciated as my dh is due home in the next week or two from working out of town.

If you want to improve the effectiveness of the condom, you may find that spermicidal gel or foam is less expensive than the sponge.

I use the sponge in combination with the natural family planning method, so on my "fertile" days I use the sponge and the rest of the month we don't use anything. We have been using that method for almost a year now and have not had any problems. I like it because I can put it in say when I get home from work, or on a Saturday morning and know I will be fine all day long without having to worry about it and we can be a little more spontaneous about things. My doctor did say that you have an increased chance of UTI's when using a sponge. I have had one since we starting using them, but I get one about once a year anyways, so I am not entirely convinced it was because of the sponge.

Thanks! The spontanity issue is the reason I wanted to try the sponge. This is the craziest feeling having to worry about birth control at this stage in our lives! Dh is 51 and I am almost 48.
