Birth control for daughter

Hi, I have some questions regarding birth control for my daughter. She is in her teens and for several reasons I would like her to be on birth control. I'll be honest, this isn't the time in her life when I envisioned having to deal with this....I thought I had a few years yet....but....anyway. I'm taking her to the gyn dr. in a few weeks and we will discuss our options at that time. It's been a LONG time since I had to think about this sort of issue, so I'm really not up on what is out there and what has the least side effects, etc. Any suggestions? Any place I should look for a comparison of many options??

Thanks for your help.

Hi there! I think alot of it is going to depend on how responsible she is going to be. Will she be able to handle taking a pill daily and remember to take it about the same time? Will something that requires weekly insertion be better? Also, make sure that she understands that the birthcontrol methods will not protect her against stds... I think your gyno will be able to offer the best solution as to side effects, since each person does react to birth control differently and her own healthy history will play a part in what's best for her.

Goodluck!

It's very important that you guys have a discussion about not only pregnancy but also how using condoms can protect against sexually transmitted diseases.
