FREAKING out

I am a first time poster - so thank you everyone for reading & responding.

I have been on BC for a little over a year now. I started on Ortho-Try-Cyclen LO in February of last year, but in August I had issues with a long and heavy period, so I was switched to Ortho-Novum 1/35. The pharmacy gave me the generic - Necon 1/35 & had no isses. I recently switched to a new pharmacy & they gave me another Ortho-Novum generic - Nortrel 1/35. I am just about to finish my first pack, and my period has yet to come. It always comes on the Tuesday after I start taking placebos. I PROMISE I take my pills like clockwork everyday - never exceeding more than 20 minutes late or early if anything.

My boyfriend and I haven't had sex in about 2 weeks (and when we do, we don't use another means of protection), I wasn't even concerned about pregnancy. But now that my period hasn't come I am FREAKING OUT so much that I might even be making myself sick. I feel like I could throw up right now to be honest. But I'm not sure if it is because I am pregnant or if I am physically worrying myself sick.

I thought I was in the clear yesterday when I had some discharge very similar to that which I see on the first day of my period, but it went away already. Since I haven't had any other spotting or anything & I haven't had sex in a little bit I don't think it could be implantation bleeding, but I don't think it was a period either. Has this even happened to anyone?

I know I should just bite the bullet & buy a pregnancy test (any suggestions as to which one?), but I am afraid of the results.

Any ideas or information you could pass on to me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again for reading. Please help.

Well im not sure about the pill your taking b/c im not on it. The best bet to not worry about being pregnant is even though you are on the pill, you should still use condoms.

But the test that i think works the best is Clearblue +/- pt with the pink absorbent tip. The best way to know very soon is a simple blood test from your doctor. Im scared of needles so i just stick to the hpts. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your response. I'm trying to relax myself to the point of not feeling sick. I know I need to pick up the home pregnancy test to put my mind at ease, but again, it's being afraid of those results (what if - yikes) that keeps me from doing it.

Would it matter that there was no change in AF when I changed from the Ortho-Try-Cyclen LO to the Necon 1/35? Is it possible to have my cycle not be affect once, and then have it be affected during the next switch?

I keep thinking about the whole situation & it is making me panic. My boyfriend always pulls out prior to, well, you know. And I take my pills religiously. I hope you are right about this being due to my change in brands of medication.

~Keeping my fingers crossed & trying to relax~

Thank you again. I'll make sure to post if/when it comes.

Sometimes periods do weird things--I've had different periods with Nuvaring from time to time, they might be heavier than normal, but one was much lighter than normal and it really freaked me out (I bought a two-pack of ept's, it was easy to use and not expensive).

Thank you for responding & for the support. I actually am feeling much better, even though I've been reading about a lot of women who got pregnant even while on the pill.

I went out on Friday & bought a First Response 2 pack test, but I haven't used it yet. I wanted to wait to see if I still felt sick, or if I just needed to calm down. I haven't felt sick this week & in reading the instructions of the test, it sounds like they might not be all that accurate. I see that you are supposed to check it after 3 minutes & it is best to do it first thing in the morning. I'm not sure I really want to do such a thing right before going to work. When I do it, I'll certainly let you know how it goes. I know I certainly can't wait a month to see if my period comes next time it is due.

Thanks again for the advice & support. This has been a scary time for me.

Thanks again to everyone for their advice / support. I just wanted to post that I finally got up the nerve to take the home pregnancy test this morning & was quite relieved to get an answer. I am not pregnant. Somehow, just knowing I hadn't taken it was starting to wear at me, so I decided to do it first thing this morning. It came back the wayI hoped. I found that I really enjoyed myself today knowing for sure (or as sure as one of these can be) that I have nothing to worry about.

I've also decided that if the same thing happens again this month, I'll visit my doctor & have my prescription changed back to my old pharmacy that has the necon I used to use.

Thanks again for everything.

This board is a great place & I'm happy to be a part of it!!!
