I've been on BC for about 3 years now, and I first started off taking Ortho try-cyclen, but because my insurance would not cover it and because I wanted a lower dose my doctor switched me to Kariva. With the ortho-try cyclen my side effects were nausea and I noticed I gained weight. I am currently on Kariva and I've been on it for about 2 years, I never really had any side effects, my period was light and it would last about 3-4 days but in the past several months I've been having irregular periods, and they've been really heavy. Two months in a row I got my period a week before my inactive week and then it went back to normal for another two months. This month though it has been a total disaster. After my last period, I started my new pack and the 1st week was fine, then the 2nd week I began having heavy irregular bleeding and it lasted about 5 days, then on the 3rd week I was not bleeding, and then again I got my period the inactive week which seems right. During this time I started a new diet, and exercising more, is it possible that that caused the irregular bleeding?
I decided to go see my doctor and she recommended I change my pills, and she gave me a prescription for the generic version of Ortho try-cyclen called Tri-sprintec. Is this a good idea? Is it possible that I will have the same side effects a person might have when first getting on the pill?
I'm just a little concern about taking a generic pill because I have read a lot of negative things about them. Kariva is a generic kind and I never had any issues until recently. :o(

Hi secksybutterfly, welcome!

Thanks for the response!
During the time the irregular period started I did start taking diet pills, they are called Adipex. I did tell my doctor and she did not really say anything about it. Could this have been the cause?
Are you still on Adipex and how much weight are you losing over what period of time? In the links below I have seen nothing about menstrual changes or interaction with hormonal contraceptives but I’m very suspicious of coincidences.
