Actually, I feel as though I had the same problem whenever I used BC with progesterone. I used Depo and gained a TON of weight. Then I went off that, lost about 25 pounds (I was still higher than my original weight) but then decided to use Minera. My weight was creeping up again when I had minera. For me the weight gain/inability to lose weight with Minera was much less noticable than with Depo, but it was still there. Finally, I decided that I'm done with hormones and now I have paragard. I like paragard a lot so far, and I even lost 4 pounds in the 2 days the minera was out! Maybe it's all in my head, but it sure doesn't seem to be.

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you you're not alone.

You are definitly not alone. I've been on depo for about 4 months now and I've gained 13lbs. I'm so upset about it I've been thinking about not getting the depo shot anymore. It seems as though dieting and exercise keeps me from gaining more, but I'm not losing any weight thats for sure. So don't feel too bad about gaining 11 lbs in ten months. It could be alot worse!!

I was wondering about that myself. I saw an advertisement for Mirena the other day and it said was "DOES NOT CAUSE SIGNIFICANT WEIGHT GAIN"...My first thought was what in the world does significant mean to them?!?!?

Hi. I had the Mirena IUD from March 2004 until December 2005. In that time period I gained 60-70 lbs!! When i had it removed my doctor then admitted Mirena can cause weight gain.

Since then I have only ovulated twice. I had lost about 15 lbs since having it removed and about 10 of those pounds were almost immediate after removal. I will never have another IUD. My cycles are messed up and I gained a ton of weight with it.

I've had my Mirena IUD since December and I have not experienced any weight gain.
