Low Dose Pills as effective?

Hello Everyone! I'm new here and this is my first post. Ive been a long time reader though! I have found so much of the information on this website helpful and informative, and I'm hoping someone will be able to answer this question for me as well! I was initially taking Diane 35 for my acne, and I was on that for about 2 years, all was well until the end of the two years when I became extrememly depressed. This was very out of character for me so I stopped taking the pills, and sure enough, within a week or two I was feeling back to my usual happy self. I went to visit my docter as I wanted to try a new form of birth control (Im in a monogonous relationship going on 2 years). She prescribed a pill called Minestrin 1/20 (I believe it is also called Loestrin 1/20 in other countries) which is a low dose pill. She cautioned that I must be very careful with this pill as it is not as effective as a higher dose pill. (??!!!) That wasnt something I really wanted to here lol. I did some research online and all the info I have found claims that low dose pills are equally as effective as higher doses. So my question is: Is Minestrin/Loestrin 1/20 an effective form of birth control?? Do I need to use condoms still? And is anyone here taking this pill and had a positive experience? Thank you very much for any help whatsoever!!!!!

Hi jinxy_jo, welcome to the Birth Control Board!
