I think my IUD traveled to my abdomen

HI everyone..
I've been searching all morning about IUD travel on the internet & then, look at this, unbelievable... someone is posting about an IUD this morning.
I tell ya,,, I'm always amazed when coincidences like that occur.
Anyway,,, I had my paraguard IUD inserted April 10th and its been fine.
Insanely long first period (8 days) and very very slight spotting in between.
Besides that, no cramping or anything.
And,, before the IUD, my periods were 2-3 days & I never get crampy, swollen, all those other things that happen to most women.
But,, last nite,, we were in a bit of a sexual marathon and I swear,, I think he pushed the IUD from its resting spot.
I've been having (what must be, I assume) cramps today.
I tried feeling for the strings and I think I felt them, I don't know,, I never looked for them before.
I put a call into my gyn and I want to get in to see her tmrw but according to the internet, the IUD can travel to the abdomen & nothing further & my cramping is behind my belly button.
What do you think?? Has this happened to any of you? The info online states it 'can' move but they don't state how it would feel.....
Also,, as a sidenote,, my partner can feel the strings as well... from the very first time. I'll have to check out those links that were given in that earlier post to see about that.
Thanks for your help
-Stacey

The IUD can't go any where.... it's placed inside your uterus... which doesn't have any openings to the rest of your body.
If your partner can still feel your strings, its probably still there.
The cramping that you are describing is normal. It takes some time for your uterus to get used to having the IUD in it.
yea? you think so?
i didnt ask him if he felt the strings lately,, i just assumed he still feels them.
i havent had any cramping at all since it was inserted and today, it just started.
youre thinking thats normal huh?
i hope so.. i just think its kinda weird that all of a sudden i started cramping.
and, it has been happening on & off all day..
even with 2 aleve...
and, i did read that the iud can travel to your abdomen, i know that wasn't an old wives tale.... thats why i was thinking that may have happened..
well,, i'll be at my gyn tmrw & we'll know for sure then!!
thank you for the reply.
Your IUD can't travel
Hi lovestoski, welcome!

Hi Stacey,
I just want to agree with Jill. Your cramps are most likely due to the "marathon" you had.. I know when I first had my IUD inserted, too much exercise or vigorous sex could cause some cramps. They should mostly go away..or you can at least learn what positions or such will cause the cramps the next day and avoid them or be ready for them. Mine afterward cramps were never that bad afte rthe first month or two.
Definitely get the strings checked out and trimmed shorter if you need to. My guy also felt the strings and he didn't like it, it was almost painful sometimes and usually uncomfortable.
And it never hurts to talk to your doctor whenever you have questions! It's your body (and peace of mind) you're talking about after all!

hi
thanks everybody, for the replies...
no bleeding, thank goodness.... so i guess that is a very good thing..
i really am not in the mood for a perforated uterus!!!
(just can't really fit that into my schedule right now! lol !!)
i guess the marathon caused the cramping..
thats a bummer.
well,,, i'll be seeing my gyn tonite just to be safe & i guess i'll get those strings snipped a bit.... we haven't talked about it since i first had it inserted....
still cramping a little bit today though...
man,, cramps are a b*tch.... i can't imagine how some women go thru this every single month.. how annoying.
thanks again... i'm so glad you were here!!

Hi again Stacey,
Let us know what your doctor says, ok?
Hugs,
Jill
It sounds like the typical IUD cramps to me. Since my IUD was inserted in December, I have cramps more often than I did before (in fact, I never used to have cramps). Now I have pretty intense cramps every month, the week before my period starts.

hi there.
yup,, it was cramps.
my iud did not move or relocate (duh, i feel pretty dumb!)
dr. recmnd to take 2 aleve 2x a day for 2 weeks & it should be fine.
i told him i havent checked for the strings,, he said, its not necessary.
he said his wife had an iud for 11 years & never checked for the strings.
he did trim my strings too so we'll see if bf feels the difference.
ha ha,, bf said next time he'll just have to try harder to knock it out of place!! lol !
<< oops, sorry,, guess this isn't the right board for that type of humor. >>

i appreciate your help & am glad you were there when i needed you!
