Question about Yaz

Well, I'm on month two of OTC-Lo. My only side effect so far, has been some painful breasts...going on a week already (second week of month two). The sad part of this, is that I've given up on exercising, cuz it hurts too much. My breasts feel like when I was pg. Big, heavy, sore everywhere. Granted, DH seems to like them, too bad I keep saying, "don't touch them!!!" lol. Of course, I am going to give it through month three to see if it works, but one reason I'm thinking screw it, is because, even if it goes away, I just found out that my health coverage doesn't cover it.

It does, however, cover Yaz.

I was on Yasmin for 4 years, however, I noticed my libido was totally gone...during all 4 years. Before that, it was pretty darn high. I figured I'd try something lower in the estrogen area, but recently saw that OTC-Lo is 25, while Yasmin is 30.

I loved Yasmin and had no problems, minus a sex drive.

Anyone else on Yaz, that used to use Yasmin and have no problems? Thoughts? Any thoughts on my current situation? I keep wondering if it's the progestin too. ugh. Why can't they make it easier for us to find a diff pill that gives us less side effects. lol

TIA.

Oh, a bit TMI, but thought this may be good info. My libido, did go up, however, because I skipped the placebo pills on my Yasmin and went straight to my OTC-Lo, I was bleeding for about 2.5 weeks (spotting), only to have it stop for 1.5 weeks then have a period. So, for about a week, libido was great. lol. Then the breast soreness started. Can't say I've been in the mood. So, I had about 1 week prior to period, and 1 week after period to really see if anything has changed. during that time, i'd say yes, but what do i know? lol

Cute weather pixie! :p

Your breast soreness may improve over the next month or two. when I took Ortho Cyclen several years ago, my breasts hurt so badly (and I had B/C sized breasts then) that I had to sleep in a sports bra and I woke up every time I

I'm assuming it'll go away also. I guess, I may just talk to my doc already. Why? Mostly because why get used to a pill, only to realize, I cna't have it cuz it's not covered? lol. Right? I don't think he realized that when he gave them to me. I will have to contact them.

I was surprised that Yaz was covered also. I will have to call my health care to make sure, but according to the website, it's covered. And OTC-Lo isn't. Weird, huh? I'd agree on that one. lol.

BTW, I love Title 9, but yeah, never bought anything from there. As for hurting, it's the pills, not the running, because the sports bras I have, do the job. I rarely have pain. But this, this is totally abnormal. I miss sleeping on my side and back. lol.

Thanks for the reply. I have to see what I can do, because if OTC-Lo really isn't covered, what's the point, y'know.

Does anyone know if the progestin in Yaz is completely different than others? I'm looking at this list, and well, it's high in progestin. However, no matter what, when I drop in progestin, in a pill, I seem to have major breast tenderness.

I guess, at 3mg it just seems a lot higher than most. I was wondering hwo that affects what it is, or if it's different compared to other progestins.

Thanks.

Obviously, my doc is giving me anything I ask for, versus trying to recommend anything that works, so, I'm trying to figure this out myself. I was hoping for the OTC-Lo, but since it's not in my formulary, I really don't see any reason to continue using it to see if the breast tenderness will go away. Zovia, was 100x worse in all areas. lol.

The type of progestin in Yaz is "higher" than others... but it is also important to take into account the potency of the progestin. Apparently, drosipernone is one of the least potent and least androgynous of all of the progestins... and, for example, levonorgestrel is one of the highest. I was on Alesse which has levonorgestrel, and it really screwed me up -- I was anxious and cried all the time. I've been on other pills too, but none for a while -- my doctor just prescribed me Yaz, so I'm going to start taking it at the end of the month, and I'm hoping it works. A website that I found useful for comparing progestins is http://www.wdxcyber.com/ncontr13.htm, if you scroll down about half way, there is a chart.

Lizjane is right--drospirenone is not as strong as some of the other progestins and comes from a completely different source (the other progestins are derived from testosterone, DRSP comes from spironolactone), so in order to achieve the same effect, a large dose is needed.

Thanks Judie and Lizjane,

I am looking at my post and thinking, was I high, or what? I know all about those charts and why Yaz has a lot of progestin. lol. But, I am grateful that you guys are here. :) I have been so frustrated.

So far, Yasmin was the only thing that seemed to
