BCP - how do you remember?

I am new to BCPs, I've been on them for 2 months now. I am generally good with taking my pill everyday at 7 pm. When I spend my evenings at home, I have an alarm that goes off on my computer at 7 pm so I will remember to take a pill. But on evenings when I go out with my bf, sometimes I forget to take my pill and end up taking it a few hours late. I don't want that to happen anymore because I get worried.

What kind of methods do you use to remember to take your pill at the same time everyday?

When I was on the pill, I kept them on my night stand and took them before I got into bed...it was a routine. Set the alarm, take my pill, get into bed. I always go to bed around the same time, between 11:00 and 1:00 so it worked for me. It also would somtimes upset my stomach, so being asleep was a good way to ignore it! If I didn't take my pill in conjunction with some other activity, would have never remembered. If there is somethign you do everyday around the same time (like get up or go to bed) I would make it part of that routine.

When I first started taking the pill I was living at home with my parents (who didn't know I was on it), so I used to take it right as I was crawling into bed at night since I usually went to bed around the same time. Now that I don't live at home anymore I continue to take it on time because I take it around watching a particular TV show. (Not that I'm going to mention which one.) I know that after watching this show, it's time to take my pill. It works for me.

I agree that setting an alarm on your cell phone is a good idea.

I have a palm pilot and what I've done is to put "Medicine" as a daily appointment every morning at 8:15, then I put a reminder alarm on it to go off 1 minute before. I almost never take it out of my purse, so even if I'm out of the house at 8:15, I can still hear it go off. This works as long as I remember to keep the battery charged!

When I took the pill (I use Nuvaring now), I would take it when my cats got their evening snack at 9pm. They never forgot their snack!

I had the same problem during my first year on birth control. I set my time for 9:30 because I never went to bed earlier than that, and I usually wasn't at work or doing anything around that time so it was easier to remember. After forgetting my pill several times that first year, I tried so hard to remember to take it on time that I kind of became obsessed with it! Sometimes I'd even wake up during the night and freak out about whether or not I had taken it that night, only to realize that I really had. Believe it or not, though, my concern about taking my pill on time caused it to become a routine for me, and I rarely take pills late anymore. I think once you get used to taking your pill at the time you have set (and try really hard to remember it), it will become routine for you. Good luck!
