IUD Question

It's a bit lengthy.

I have an IUD (inserted after the birth of the first child) for almost 2 years now and have had no problems what so ever.
However, one of the side effects that I have experienced is lack of AF. (That has not been a problem for me, just a perk.)
But over the past week I've had all the signs of pregnancy. Ultra sensitive breasts, fatigue, emotional roller coaster, weird cravings, etc... I've taken 2 hpt and both came back negative - but I'm still suspicious.
My questions is (I probably should know this, but) can you still get pregnant if you don't have periods? Are you still ovulating?

I've attempted to search over this and even called my doctor - who's nurse is a huge witch (subtract the w and insert a b). She informed me that with an IUD there is a possiblity that I won't have a period (this I already know) and that I couldn't be pregnant, but I could come in and consult with the dr. I'm not really looking for a consultation, I'm just looking for an answer. And my question to her from the beginning was, should I wait a week or so and if I'm feeling the same try to test again (since maybe I'm just really early along and it won't show up on a hpt) or since I have an IUD the test wouldn't come back correctly.
I've just read so much about pregnancies with an IUD and how it could be tubal and either way you need to get checked out as soon as possible, and now I'm just concerned.

Any help or referral would be great.

Thanks in advance.
