How to skip a period with BC pills??

Ok, originally I was asking about how to skip a period, but I read the discussion topic "Taking your pills correctly" and think I found the information I need -- now I just want to make sure I understand it right:

To delay my period a week (with triphasic pills) so that I won't get it as scheduled this week, all I have to do now is take the 3rd phase (dark blue) of a new pack of pills, correct? Then after taking those, I should get my period next week when I take the placebo pills...and then I can start a new pack like usual?

Just wanted to make sure this was right, and also wanted to know if I should expect a lot of irregular bleeding since this is my first time delaying a period? I also found the link to the "Instead softcups" on another discussion post - I think I'm going to give them a try for my next period and/or if I get any irregular bleeding while delaying my period this week. Has anyone here tried them?

Anyways, I also just want to say a big THANKS to the leaders of this discussion board -- your information on how to take pills correctly and delaying periods is exactly what I've been looking for, and I could not find that information on any other website I looked!! And even the information on softcup barriers is something I've never heard of before and is really helpful to me! :) These discussion boards will be the first place I look next time I need information!

Jill took care of most of your questions, but I can answer about the Instead...

Hey, thanks for the extra info. I actually bought some Instead cups last week and tried one just to see how it fit. It was really weird - I understand how it works, and I didn't feel anything after it was in, but I still don't know how protected I'd feel with it. Good advice about trying it with a pad just in case-- I think I'm going to do that for my next period, just to see how much/little it leaks. I know they say that it can be used during intercourse, but if you ask me, the way it was in there, I think the guy would notice and it seems like it would get moved around too. Anyways, I think you're right that a tampon is probably a better choice - and easier to get used to.

As for delaying my period this week, I have been taking the other set of the last phase of pills, and so far I haven't gotten my period or any signs of it! (Woohoo!) Hopefully this it will continue to stay that way until I take the placebo pills next week.

I'll post another update on how well it worked next week. Thanks for all your help guys!

Thank you guys so much!!! I was able to delay my period for a week and I had absolutely no irregular bleeding! It was such a great week of vacation with my boyfriend, and I was able to enjoy a day at the amusement park without worrying about my period! Now I'm just waiting to get my period in the next few days (hopefully!)

I'm so glad I found this information out, because I won't be worried the next time I have a big event or vacation that I don't want my period for. The only thing I'm kinda curious about is how many refills my insurance company will cover? I pay a "copay" everytime I get perscriptions refilled, and I read somewhere online that some insurance companies have a limit of how many refills you can get on birth control pills each year... And my perscription doesn't say there's a specific amount of refills, it just says "refillable until January of 2007". Do any of you know if this might become an issue or if I shouldn't have to worry about it?

You might have to call your insurance company and ask (phone number on the back of your card?).
