Stopping Pill & maybe starting Nuvaring?

Hi,
I posted here last week and got so much information, so I'm back. :) I'm breastfeeding, and this is my first month on the Pill. I'm taking Aviane (Alesse) and although it's been working fine for me (aside from some minor headaches/nausea), it's affecting my milk supply so I'm considering stopping it and either just using condoms or possibly trying NuvaRing. I would love to hear any/all experiences with NuvaRing so please feel free to post if you've tried it. One of my biggest questions about NuvaRing is whether it regulates your cycles like the Pill does. If any NuvaRing users can share their experiences with that, that'll be really helpful.
I have a few questions about going off the pill. I'm on day 16 of this pack, so I have 5 more active pills left and then the placebo pills. If I decide to go off the Pill, is it best to finish out the pack (the active pills)? Would going off it earlier than that mess up my non-pill cycles? Also, if I do finish out this pack and don't start another hormonal method like Nuvaring, am I protected at all during the week of inactive pills? Like, if I have sex on day 26 (inactive pills), and then don't start another pack once the inactive pills are gone, is it possible to get pregnant from that?
Thanks! :)
