Inserted Ring...I'm scared :-\

So I got my period *finally* on 7-6-06. I wanted to start the ring last week but never got my period. Anyway though, today is day 3 of my period and I just put it in 5 minutes ago. First of all, I didn't realize how big it is!! I was wondering...its supposed to be dry when you take it out of the package, right? Do the hormones get released when they come in contact with your vagina? I assume thats how it must work? And is this the same when it comes to the pill in terms of removal/insertion at the same time? Like I put it in today at 11:45 AM...in 3 weeks when I remove it and 4 weeks when a new one is put in...do I have the -/+ 2 hours like the pill does? Also, I have just gotten over a yeast infection and I took the AZO yeast homeopathic stuff in combo with acidophilus. Are those two things still okay for me to take if I get another yeast in the future while on the ring? Sorry for all the questions. This is just all so new to me and I am a little nervous. :-\

I just started the ring myself a few weeks ago. I take it out in a few days. I can answer some of those questions just based on all the reading I've done about it (and anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!). First, yeah it's way bigger than I thought! But if I can't feel it, then it's all good. Yes it's supposed to be dry, just a little cool from being in the fridge. The hormones are released basically when it comes into contact with high temperatures, like the inside of your body, which is why its supposed to be kept in the fridge.
When it comes to inserting and taking out, you are supposed to do it at the same times, but from what I've read, with the ring you can put it in a couple of days earlier (or take it out a couple of days late, but no more than a couple days). The key is that there can't be any more than 7 days in between when you take it out and put a new one in. I think the specific time thing is more to make it easier to remember it!
As for the yeast infection, I don't know for sure but I can't imagine why you wouldn't be able to use those with it. And if you're ever worried, just use a back up method of birth control! (Especially if you're on anti-biotics cause of the infection). Hope I helped. :-)
Hang in there!
Thanks Judie :) :) Sometimes I feel like I am asking repetitive questions or ones with obvious answers.
My doctor told me that since this is the first time I have used hormonal birth control ( just used condoms for the past 3 years of a 4 year monogamous relationship) that I should wait atleast TWO cycles for it to be effective?? She said my body needs to get used to it and get it in my system before I am fully protected. That just seems weird to me because the packaging says 7 days( I inserted on day 3 of my period, which was yesterday) and the nurse I talked to when I was sick on the pill also said 7 days. The doc also said everyone's body is different and mine will need time to build up the hormones since I never had them before. I mean...is there a way to tell if the ring is working? I almost feel I have it in the wrong place or its not working because so far...I feel no different and when I tried Low Ovral I was sick as a dog...and I only took two pills then stopped. With the ring, I don't feel any different so I feel I've done something wrong almost!
Hi again
Jill
The first time I used hormonal birth control, I waited one cycle before we stopped using condoms.
