Will my husband feel the IUD string?
| Tue, 07-11-2006 - 3:15pm |
After doing a lot of reading, i have decided i think that i will go with the Mirena IUD. It seems safest and best for my situation. I do however have an issue with the fact that my husband might feel the IUD string. I think it would freak him out. How often does a spouse feel this or does it vary from person to person.

Hi Shannon, welcome!

Hi Shannon,
My husband just feels the string poke him every once in a while. It is definatly not painful or anything. It's just a little poke. He complains about it... but he would much rather deal with the poke than me not be on birth control. And he doesn't feel it all the time... it's only certain times when he might go a little deeper. Overall, there are more pluses than negatives with the Mirena for us as a couple.
Hi,
thanks for bringing this subject up. I was looking for info on this as yesterday my boyfriend said something felt very weird after having sex. I have had my paraguard IUD for 10 months now. Before this he has said he has felt the strings on occasion but not that it ever hurt. This morning he had 10 or so red dots all around the tip of his penis. As if pricked by a needle. Poor guy! I am having a bit of pain on the left side of my lower abdomen. I thought it must be period pain but now I am starting to worry. Other than this and heavier bleeds I have had no problems with it. I have not been told by my gynecologist to check for any strings and I do not know how long they are. We have no children. I think I will call my doctor and ask.
