Just started NuvaRing Question (TMI?)

I was on depo for 2 years and instead of getting a new shot i chose to go on Nuvaring cause i want to start to work on getting my cycles back to normal and hopefully have an easier time TTC when the time comes. Here's my question...

I put the Nuvaring in today and the clinic i go to wasnt helpful and only gave me a paper with info on using the ring. I thought the ring sat in the same kind of position as like a barrier would. I thought it sat around the cervix. But once i saw how large the ring was i knew thats wasnt happening. I inserted the ring. It stated long as it was in the vagina it works. So i am ok on that end of it.

Ok here is the TMI part. I know it says some people can feel it and i was never one to use tampons so maybe i am just sensitive to it since its new to my area. I can feel it a little especially when i am sitting. It says if you can feel it to push it in farther and i cant. it is as far as it will go. I dont even insert half of my first finger and i can feel it. Its only like 1 inch from the opening. Is this right? Or was i correct when i assumed it would sit more up in there like a ring around my cervix?

iVillage always sems to have wonderfull people so i thought i would try here first. Any advice would be great. I just want to make sure i am using it correctly or if i am somehow doing it wrong (though the info said long as it is in there it is fine).

Thank you!!! Beth

this is the perfect place for this type of question, even tmi ones can be asked here, LOL.

I use the ring and mine sits pretty close to the front of my vagina but I can't feel it unless it is slipping down (only happened a couple of times in 5 months). I thought it would go much higher in there and was very suprised how low it sat but it rarely moves out of position, kind of wedged behind the pubic bone. If you do feel you might try positioning it again, otherwise just give it a little time to see if you get used to it. I came and asked the exact same question when I got mine!

Good luck

Well, I'm no expert... I've only had mine in for a few weeks! But, I haven't been able to feel it at all. You might just be more sensitive to it since you don't use tampons. I'd say give it a couple of days, and it'll probably be more comfortable. It sounds like it's sitting in the right place (by the way, before I saw it, I assumed it was smaller and sat around the cervix too! But that's obviously not possible... for most women, anyway!). It seems silly but you could just kind of "play" with it a little, shift it around and see if there is a different way it could sit. Even take it out and put it back in. If it doesn't feel right after a few days, talk to the doctor and see what he/she says. Hope I helped. :-)

I am a nurse at a planned parenthood. You most likely are sensitive to it, and may adapt to it as time goes on. It theoretically should sit behind your pubic bone, encircling the cervix, it generally goes there on it's own. I would reccomend having your provider check the placement if you want to be sure. We allow people to do it here, and generally don't charge them for this service (it takes only minutes). If your provider won't do it, call a PP in your area, they may (though I'm told that not all PP's are as accomadating as ours is :-( Let me know if any more questions!

Thanks everyone i think you all answered it. Sounds like it is sitting where it is suppose to be. Just didnt expect it to sit that far down. I had tried taking it out and putting it back in yesterday with the same result and i figured this is how it was suppose to sit since i could not get it to do anything else lol.

I think i just need time to get used to it now. Today it seems a little less noticable so hopefully i will soon just not notice it.

Thanks again everyone....
