paragard causes pain

hello ladies,

i am a single gal with no kids, in a great relationship. i had a copper iud (no hormones) inserted at the end of december 05. it was rough at the beginning (cramps, heavy periods) but that seemed to improve.

lately i am having what feel like bad menstrual cramps throughout the entire month, with bloating and an urgent need to pee (but really don't have to). I saw my gyn and she ultrasounded me: cyst on one ovary, and "tiny" fibroid. neither of these should cause the increasing pain i am having.

I am starting to think the pain may be related to the IUD. i have a small uterus, tipped back a bit, and as I said, have never had children.

Has anyone else had problems like this with their IUD? did it help to have it removed?

Thanks so much for any advice.

thanks so much for your response.

i am thinking now that i might wait it out a bit longer before having the IUD removed.

btw, my doc did test for UTI, but good thinking...

i am working on reducing my estrogen levels to (hopefully) reduce the fibroid and so any pain that might be coming from that. also, i am still wondering what is happening with the cyst that was found on left ovary.

here is what i am doing to lower my estrogen:
going to gym as often as possible
eating more fiber
drinking less alcohol
drinking more water
taking "estrosense" suppment (contains sulforaphanes, from cabbage and broccoli)
using pro-gest progesterone cream 1-2 times a day from days 15-bleeding in my cycle

i think i am starting to feel better a bit -- but may be just positive thinking (nothing wrong with that!). i really just want to know that there is nothing wrong with my health. the IUD is really such an ideal form of bc for me (no hormones, and nearly fail-proof). I hope to make this work out.

again thanks for your reponse! i will post back if i learn anything new.

any other advice on managing estrogen, btw??

It sounds like you're hitting all the major points for reducing your estrogen.

Judie,
Where could I find information on reducing/increasing estrogen without the use of medications?
I have the opposite problem. I am in a hypo-estrogenic state, as my doctor says. I am breastfeeding and using depo for birth control. I am taking calcium supplements and I know that there are phyto-estrogens in soy products. I don’t know how much of that I can enjoy during breastfeeding, but from what I hear there isn’t much concern over it.
Of course, I wouldn't try anything that may affect bf without much research.
Thanks,
holly
