Going off BCP and getting an IUD

Hi gals,
I am going to try one more time for an IUD, this time for the copper IUD. My appointment is Aug. 17, the fist week of my new cycle / first week of my new pill pack (am currently on OTC-lo).
However, if you are on BCPs, does the timing of IUD insertion really matter, because you are not getting "real" period?
I am desperate to go off the pill. To the extent that I want to stop the pill *today*, literally. I understand that there will be bleeding and symptoms to this, but the pill is causing me such daily depression and mood swings that I am impatient and do not want to stay on it for my two more weeks of active pills. (If I go off it today, I will have finished the first week of active pills, then blotto).
Will going off the pill now, induce a "period" sooner, such that I should change the appointment of the IUD insertion? Or will going off the pill now, mess up my cycle so badly that it really doesn't matter when the IUD is inserted, and I could keep my Aug. 17 appointment?
Thanks in advance!

Hi again fuchsia_g,
Jill
Jill,
*Thank you* so much for the counseling on this. You are so knowledgeable, even on the methods you haven't had direct experience with. And you board moderators check every day, so you were able to respond so quickly (I wasn't expecting a same day response!). I feel lucky to have you guys on this board!
I'll keep you all posted on my timing. After all this is settled, after I've settled on my method for the near future, hopefully I can come here and help answer other people's questions.
Thanks for the tip that the period will be induced when I stop the pill - I've not actually stopped in 10 years (other than missing a pill), so I didn't know about that!
You are right though about keeping calm and doing things rationally. This case of the blahs is just awful, but I went to a spinning class this afternoon and got some endorphins going. I won't go off the pill until I can talk to my doctor's office tomorrow.
Cheers!

Hi again,
Okay, I moved my new IUD appointment to next week Tuesday! One of the physicians at my clinic can see me then for the insertion. So as of yesterday i am off the pill! Yay!
Now i just have to think through the Mirena vs. Paragard. Being that my motivation for going off the pill is mood swings and hyperpigmentation, and being that Mirena has a steady dose of progestin, the copper IUD with no hormones is probably the right choice.
