Loss of Libido??

I've been on Alesse for about 7 months. As far as side effects go...it was just the usual headaches when I first started, but the got weaker and eventually disappeared. But lately, I haven't been as interested in "getting busy" as I usually am. It's possible that part of it is stress related. However, when I AM interested (mentally), my body is not responding like it used to. I'm not secreting as much fluid as I used to during foreplay and intercourse, making intercourse slightly painful. (I know, use lube!) My question is this: Is this loss of libido/natural lubrication pill related?

Thanks for your help.

It very well could be related to the pill. If your on any other medication it could be related to that as well. Maybe go back and talk to your doctor about other options. There are a lot of different kinds of pills out there.

Alesse contains the same progestin/progesterone as my Mirena IUD, and I have been experiencing vaginal dryness with it (bad enough for me to be getting it removed soon), so it is quite possible your birth control is causing you your problems.

Thanks for your response...

I have another question for you...I've been on it for 7 months, why would it not have effected me like this before now? Any ideas?

Have you recently started taking any other medications? Pills are not the only thing that can cause a loss in lidido. I know anti-depressants can cause the problem don't know what else.

There's not really any explanation for it.

I'm not on any other medications. I take my pill and a multivitamin, nothing else (I've been taking them together from day 1). There's been really no change to my diet, etc. I'm under a tad more stress than normal, but it's nothing I haven't dealt with before...I know it's probably a factor, but I know it can't be the only one.

Hey Jill,

Thanks for your message. Mind if I ask what you ended up doing when you went off the pill? (I don't mind if you don't want to share, but I was just wondering what ended up working for you...i know everyone's different, but...)

Any insight on moodiness, too? I got moody when I started, but I thought it was getting better. But the last two months, it's been getting worse. I broke down in the middle of dinner last night (we had gone out) for NO rational reason! (talk about embarassing...my poor SO had no idea what to do.) I'm definitely going to find out about switiching pills this week...

thx!

Moodiness is another common side effect of hormonal contraceptives so
