Ok, so I thought what i had was a yeast infection, and i thought i had it for a month or so. Same symptoms, though pretty minor. wort is the burning/stinging during intercourse and the itching. well, went to my gyn yesterday- it was time for my annual- and no yeast. They are doign a bunch of culture tests, but he thinks they will come back negative. i am at my wits end here. my sex life is pretty much non-existent. DH is completely fed up with this- though also supportive- and I don't know what to. Could it be a reaction to the pill i started about 2 months ago? Has this happend to anyone else? Any advice you can give would be very very much appreciated!
Thanks
by the way, i tried monistat and am taking acidophilus, as i saw recommended on this board a week or so prior to going to the doc, also with no results

I read this article about nutrion and the pill (http://www.healthy.net/scr/article.asp?ID=1260) -- and it gives some good tips on what to take to avoid or minimize certain side effects. It says:

"In Nutrition and Vitamin Therapy, Michael Lesser, M.D., points out that birth control pills cause an alkaline imbalance in the vagina that may lead to increased susceptibility to infection. Extra ascorbic acid, 1-2 grams per day, may help balance the acid environment and prevent this problem."

...maybe something to try? (by the way: ascorbic acid is vitamin C)

hope everything works out for you!

Thanks! That's pretty interesting. You know, I used to take vitamin c supplements, but I thought I remembered reading once that an excess of it was not good if you were on a BCP. I don't know why, and I don't remember where I read it. But after reading your message, I've done a search,a nd all I can find is info that says BCPs deplete your vitamin C, and that additional supplements may be necessary. So interesting. So I guess I'll resume my Vitamin C and maybe that will give me some relief. Thanks so much for the input

hey it could be a reaction to birth control-----i got my first one when i started having sex like 5 times a day-i have a really high sex drive and my ex-fince finally caught on that this was a good thing-then my ob-gyn said that lots of sex all the time can throw off the vagina and also the pill can cause some women to have itching, burning and discomfort, it just depends on the person----also sometimes around my period i get a light yeast infection and my gynecologist said that this is because the Ph of the vagina is different during your period-like your vagina does not like period blood-also douching a lot throws your vagina out of whack and that can cause burning and a lot of discomfort--one thing that i also learned is drinking a lot of water helps keep your system flushed out and drinking juice, soda, and other sugary drinks makes it worse-some people say this can lead to diabetes, and diabetes is a major problem as far as making yeast infections worse-----my mom also said that when she got her first yeast infection she put some plain, non sweetened yogurt and put it on a maxi pad and just wore it like a regular pad, and this worked for her-she said that it is annoying and old fashioned and messy, but it works, and also dont put a lot on---another thing that i have tried, is hydrogen peroxide-this gives instant relief-------ok i am done talking now, i talk a lot and i could go on forever.............i hope this helps, good luck!

Wow, thanks everyone for all this input. I really appreciate it. i really do think it is a response to my pill. I have tried so may things to improve the situation, and I will continue to do so until my dr. gives me the ok to switch. I have been so discouraged about this situation, but I truly appreciate all this support and advice. The doc said i have 2 wait 2 weeks for all my culture results- that seems like such a long time these days, does it really take that long...sigh... So I only have one week to go and then he said he wants me to try diflucan...sigh again...another time waster, i fear.... THEN, I guess i can ask for a switch. After so many years, I am truly beginning to hate the pill. I've started thinking about IUD, but apparent;y that can cause the same problem I am having now, plus I have heard very unpleasant tales of having it puit in....but I suppose all those questions are for another time and another thread. Thanks again!
