You cant get Alesse or Triphasil 28
| Mon, 08-07-2006 - 11:33am |
My doctor prescribed Alesse BC for me and I went to the Wyeth.com website to find some info and they have discontinued Alesse and Triphasil 28 and will not have it anymore. Just thought I'd let you all know who are taking it. (BUMMER)

Hi mybrokenheart98, welcome!
Jill
Actually they have stopped manufacturing those 2 pills.
I was informed by my pharmacy this morning that they could no longer fill my Triphasil prescription.
See here for information: http://www.wyeth.com/news?nav=display&navTo=/wyeth_html/home/news/pressreleases/2006/1154551823189.html
And here: http://www.nutraingredients-usa.com/news/ng.asp?n=69229-wyeth-fda-puerto-rico-triphasil-alesse
Due to violations at their factory they have decided to put a hold on the production of Triphasil and Alesse while it works on the issues identified by the FDA.
My doctor called me in a prescription for Trivora today to replace my Triphasil prescription.
Hi melissa_jpf, welcome!
Jill
Those 2 links say they're temporarily out-of-stock, or there's a "hold" on them, not that they're discontinued.
Can I use this opportunity to say a little something about the "out-of-stock" designation? I used to (and maybe will again soon) work in a grocery store. For 6 years. I knew what i was doing. I was even a manager for awhile. When we say an item is "out-of-stock" it doesn't mean it's been discontinued, or not manufactured anymore, it means just that is is out of stock, i.e., gone for awhile.
There are a lot of reasons something can be out of stock ... sometimes the warehouse just runs out of it (for items that sell a lot, like Cheerios, that happens often!). Sometimes the company that makes it is changing the packaging or label, and so there's a little lag time. Sometimes one size is being discontinued and another is coming in (that happens more than you'd think - once every size jar of Hellman's mayo went out for a whole 2 weeks because they were increasing every jar size by 1 OZ.). In this case, Wyeth itself is having some issues, and they're trying to work them out by temporarily not producing these 2 Pills. At work, and here too I assume, there's no way of finding out how long something will be out of stock for, it just depends on when the kinks are worked out. When it comes back in, it comes back in.
At work, we *do* know the difference when something has been discontinued, because it says - in our order book, on our list of out-of-stock items, on our ordering guns - it says, "DISCONTINUED." Whereas if it's out of stock, we just don't get it. Or if there's a manufacturer problem, it will say, "UNAVAILABLE." The word "discontinued" doesn't appear in any of those links, because "out of stock" and "unavailable" and "discontinued" are totally different things. I feel like a lot of people don't know this (judging by how many PO'd customers I got who assumed I didn't know what I was talking about when I said something was OOS).
Just thought I'd weigh in.
Yes but... if you are like me, currently on the week of placebo pills, and your pharmacy is telling you that they can no longer fill that prescription, and not only that... no pharmacy can fill it, it's a little more important than a grocery store running out of cereal.
I won't get pregnant if I don't eat my Wheaties for a few days...
I didn't say the pills were "discontinued", and I don't recall anyone else saying that either. But a "hold on production" is a pretty big thing no matter what you call it.
Hi again Melissa,
Jill
Melissa, I'm sorry if I offended you; Jill is right, I was referring to the original post, which said they'd been "discontinued", and I made an assumption when i read YOUR original post which said they'd stopped manufacturing them, I thought when you said that, you had mean that they stopped manufacturing them for good, not temporarily. That is my wrongful assumption, and I apologize if this bothered you. I just got off Alesse a few months ago, please don't think I'm taking this lightly. There *are* other Pills out there though, and if you have a good doctor they should be willing to work with you to find a similar pill (they are out there) or something else that will work for you. I hope you are able to do this.
I just want to also say, yes, for *us* this is definitely more important than a grocery store "running out" of cereal (although I wrote what I did to point out that it's *not* just about "running out" it's about everything that can go wrong on an item's way to the shelf, be it a grocery item or a drug), I don't think everyone thinks that way... I have been called vulgar names and had people intentionally hit me with their grocery carriage because a company discontinued an item or has made it is unavailable. For example, Post Cocoa Pebbles went unavailable from manufacturer for 2 weeks, and you'd have thought someone was going do die without it... I hope you don't think I was comparing birth control to cereal in terms of ultimate importance, but people's reactions to the two things are quite similar.
Best of luck.

No offense taken.
I know all too well how people can overreact about the least important things that run out at a grocery store. I've been in that business myself for more years than I care to think about...
When, after Hurricane Katrina came through here (on her way to New Orleans) I had to hear complaints from the "ladies" in Miami that they couldn't get any ice cream, and they acted as if it was the end of the world as we know it. Only to go home, turn on the TV and see those poor people standing on rooftops waiting to be plucked off by helicopters... it was just about more than I could take...
I have a replacement for my Triphasil... got a 1 month prescription for the generic (Trivora).
