Experience skipping period wth NuvaRing?

Hi,

I'm just finishing my first month on NuvaRing (today is day 24 for me, so I should take it out about now). I saw my midwife today for a checkup, and she said that I could skip periods if I wanted to by just inserting a new Ring, with no break in between (she said not to go more than three months in a row doing that though).

My question is, has anyone tried this? What was your experience - did it work out okay? Did you have any breakthrough bleeding or did it mess up your cycles at all? I'm trying to decide if I should skip this period, or take the regular Ring-free week and then insert the new one. I just don't want it to mess up my cycle or cause a bunch of prolonged breakthrough bleeding, etc.

Thanks!

I have skipped it with the nuva ring, it wasn't too bad. However, I've stopped using it because of deblitating migranes associated with my period on the ring. The first few months were better than ever and got worse. Some doctors will tell you not to skip simply because there has been no research by nuva ring or the fda on skipping with the ring. But like I said it worked for me and my honeymoon. Good luck :)

My doctor is an advocate of this too, though his recommendation to me was to insert a new ring on the first of every month.

Actually, in my "patient information" packet that came with the ring (as well as the printed info that Planned Parenthood gave me about it), it says that the ring can be left in for up to 4 weeks and still be effective. Of course, it also says that if you leave it in for 4 weeks, you should take it out for a week, have your period, and then insert a new one after the ring-free week. However, I assume that because it says that the ring is effective for 4 weeks, you could use it for the full 4 weeks and just start a new ring immediately, thus skipping your perioud but still staying on the same cycle. Am I correct in this assumption? I certainly hope so! Using a new ring every month instead of every three weeks would allow me to stay on my normal prescription (since obviously there's 12 refills for a year--which wouldn't get me through a whole year if I'm only using them for 3 weeks--you know what I mean?).
