Do we need BC after age 43?

Are the odds of accidental pregnancy after age 43 really enough to warrant birth control? Is it safe to go off the pill? I would think the odds of getting pregnant at that age would be far less than the chances of undesirable side effects. Thanks for input.

Although the chances of getting pregnant at 43 are lower, there are other factors to consider.

Have you ever heard the term "change-of-life baby"?

I don't know. I just read about some 60+ year old lady having a baby.

Unless you are menopausal, I wouldn't risk it. JMO, of course.

I just turned 46. I have a paragard IUD which I've been using for just over a year. I still have very regular periods. I do not want children and personally feel the risk of getting pregnant is too great even at my age.

If you really don't want a pregnancy, I would find a birth control method that works best for your situation and use it until you've reached menopause.
